Solutions for Sustainability and Inclusivity: Policy, Innovation & Collaboration’ Adopting  and highlighting a solutions-based approach to sustainability is crucial for addressing the multifaceted challenges that the global community faces today. Sustainable development is a complex issue that demands creative solutions and identifying and implementing practical strategies to achieve sustainability efficiently.

With an emphasis on policy, collaboration, and innovation, this year’s conference aims to unpack these three components to highlight various initiatives that are globally reshaping the approach to sustainability/sustainable business practices.

Policies play a crucial role in promoting sustainability and addressing the challenges that arise in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Well-crafted policies incentise sustainable practices and adjust the economic system to better account for the true value of the environment and society. By enabling a conducive environment for environmentally responsible practices, policies can drive change and facilitate adoption of green technologies. Furthermore, policies can encourage international cooperation, thereby addressing the global nature of sustainability problems. With these key considerations in mind, it is clear that policy-related solutions are one of the most effective tools we have at our disposal to promote sustainability and effect lasting change on a global scale. The conference sessions will discuss policy coherence, consistency and coordination at both the vertical (internationalnational-subnational-local) and the horizontal (groupings like the G7, G20, BRICS, etc.) levels of policymaking and implementation.

Innovation and sustainability are intertwined; they offer complementary strategies for tackling social and environmental issues, with innovation being recognised as a key tool for driving industrial and economic growth. Innovation can facilitate the development of processes, products, and services that are more efficient, consume fewer resources, and generate less waste and environmental risks. Such advancements include the promotion of green technologies and sustainable production methods, which represent the vanguard tools for promoting sustainable development in organizations. Innovations would be approached from different angles including - technological innovation, financing innovation, business model innovation, grassroots innovation and innovations in the policy and the regulatory framework.

Collaboration serves as a powerful lever for promoting sustainable solutions and achieving our collective goals. In a world that is increasingly interconnected and facing complex challenges, collaboration allows for the pooling of resources, expertise, and perspectives from diverse stakeholders. By working together, we can harness collective intelligence, identify innovative approaches, and implement comprehensive solutions that are more effective and enduring. Collaboration fosters the sharing of knowledge, experience, and best practices, creating a platform for cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary cooperation. It enables stakeholders to align their efforts, coordinate actions, and overcome barriers that could be potentially insurmountable for individual actors. By leveraging collaboration as a catalyst, we can unlock the transformative potential needed to address the complex sustainability challenges we face, paving the way towards a more sustainable and resilient future. Yes, collaboration is not easy and in many cases remains academic or theoretical and not ingrained in practice.
